Alumni Choir
Everyone 16 and older is welcome to join the Alumni Choir, which performs at the Sunday morning chapel service and is directed by Lawrence Henry ’76. Rehearsals are held Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning before the service. We have had at least one alum from every reunion class (’40s-’10s) participate each year in this wonderful collection of voices.
Alumni College
Carleton faculty, alumni, and staff lecture or perform as part of Alumni College, Carleton’s Reunion “back to the classroom” program. The Alumni College schedule from last year is available. If you have a recommendation for a speaker or topic, please notify the Office of Alumni Relations.
Alumni Multifaith Service of Remembrance and Celebration
This non-denominational service in Skinner Memorial Chapel provides the opportunity for reflection and celebration of Carleton’s community ties and honors all alumni who have died in the past year. Each class will light a candle in remembrance of those who have died since their graduation. This program also features alumni speakers, musicians, and the Alumni Choir.
Arboretum Service Project
Remember getting away from it all in the Arb? The Arb is still a place for study, recreation, and quiet contemplation, but it needs your help! Help improve the natural habitat of the Arboretum during Reunion. Past projects have included tree and shrub planting, buckthorn and honeysuckle removal, and planting wildflower seeds. Wear clothes that can get dirty; long pants and closed-toed shoes are advised. Bring your water bottle and pack a pair of work gloves. We will supply gloves for those who do not have them, insect repellent, and additional drinking water. This is a family-friendly activity.
Book Signing
Alumni, faculty, and staff authors are invited to autograph their books on Saturday. The Carleton Bookstore will work with you and your publisher to acquire the books or media and make them available for sale during the event. For more information, please contact the Carleton Bookstore by May 1 at 507-222-4153, or write to the Carleton Bookstore, One North College Street, Northfield, MN 55057.
‘C’ Club Hall of Fame Luncheon
Each year the ‘C’ Club inducts new members into the Hall of Fame at a luncheon on Saturday during Reunion. Inductees are chosen based on their success as student varsity athletes. If you wish to attend the luncheon, please sign up when you register for Reunion.
Carleton Open
Play a round of golf with classmates and other alumni on Thursday afternoon of Reunion weekend. The tournament uses a team scramble format, with flights for men, women, and couples. Teams will be organized with player participation and handicapped using the “Thurnblad System.” For more information, contact Alumni Relations (800-729-2586) with questions.
Class Photos
Class photos are taken at scheduled times during Reunion. You can purchase an 8×12 print either as part of your registration for Reunion or via an online link sent by Alumni Relations after Reunion. Prints will be sent by mail after Reunion to all recipients. Free digital downloads of your class photo will also be available after Reunion.
Heywood Society Celebration
The annual luncheon honoring members of the Joseph Lee Heywood Society will be held on Friday of Reunion. A separate invitation to this event will be mailed to all Heywood Society members in May. Those who have established a planned gift for Carleton’s benefit, such as making the College a beneficiary of their will or trust, are members of the Heywood Society. For more information, please call 800-492-2275.
Open Houses and Tours
During Reunion, tours of campus are scheduled. Many campus offices host open houses on Friday afternoon, which often includes Admissions, the Gender and Sexuality Center, and the Office of Intercultural and International Life.
Parade of Classes and Alumni Convocation
The Parade of Classes is a moving Reunion tradition. Alumni and family members are both spectators and participants as a visual display of Carleton’s history unfolds. On Saturday at 9:45 a.m., alumni, guests, and families line up in order of class year around the Bald Spot with the senior classes near Sayles-Hill and the younger classes stretching toward the Chapel on both sides of the sidewalk. The parade begins as the most senior alumni parade past the cheering younger classes on their way to Alumni Convocation in the Chapel. The next youngest class then falls in behind.
The Saturday morning Alumni Convocation features remarks by Carleton’s president and the presentation of the Alumni Association Awards by the president of the Alumni Association.
Worship Opportunities
An Oneg Shabbat (Shabbat reception) is held at Page House East on Friday. See above for information on the Alumni Multifaith Service of Remembrance and Celebration on Sunday morning.
