The Trip

Join Carleton alumni on this opportunity to combine stunning scenery, informative guided tours, and indigenous history in one of our country’s most spectacular national parks with travel on Amtrak’s famed Empire Builder.

The trip includes accommodations at the West Glacier Motel and Cabins, the historic Glacier Park Lodge, and Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, with a variety of options for train accommodations ranging from coach seats to sleeping car roomettes to and from St. Paul.  Day excursions include guided tours, sightseeing, walks, and educational talks.

The trip begins and ends in St. Paul, Minnesota, with the opportunity to share the adventure of Amtrak train travel across the upper Midwest and high plains of Montana, and learn the history that connects Minnesota and Glacier National Park.

Tour leader

Andrew Selden ’68, retired attorney and experienced professional educator, has organized and led numerous trips via Amtrak to Glacier National Park on behalf of the University of Minnesota’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.  He is the president of the United Rail Passenger Alliance.
