The annual Summer Send-Off is a longtime Carleton DC Alumni Club tradition. It’s our way to welcome incoming students and the best opportunity we have all year for the Carleton DC community to get together. We’ll provide some outdoor games (feel free to bring your own) and light refreshments. Dogs are also welcome in the park.

Prospective students and parents—chat with current students, alumni, and families! Members of the incoming Class of 2023, prospective students, and their families need not bring anything.

Join Carleton's Deborah Appleman, the Hollis L. Caldwell Professor of Educational Studies, for a talk titled "Words No Bars Can Hold: Teaching and Learning with the Incarcerated" at 2:15 pm. Professor Appleman will share her experiences teaching creative writing and other college courses at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater, a high-security men's prison. Professor Appleman has taught there regularly since 2007 and will share the creative work of her incarcerated students as well as her own reflections about that work and about the importance of educational and creative opportunities for the incarcerated. She has recently written a book about this topic: "Words No Bars Can Hold: Literacy Learning in Prison", WW Norton, June 2019.

Following the discussion, there will be a Q & A alumni panel for all new and prospective students and their parents.
