Work Study

Carleton provides a unique opportunity for students to earn money towards their tuition (or for themselves) while also gaining work experiences and learning important skills for the workforce. As a first year, I can only work 8 hours a week, while sophomores, juniors, and seniors can work up to 10 hours. Students can work at the IT Helpdesk or at the Northfield Public Library, and if you want to hear more about individual students’ experiences check out the Student Employment website.

Admissions Blogger

Currently, if you couldn’t tell already, I work as an Admissions Blogger. My job is to post a blog every week about academics, daily life, aspects of the Carleton experience or anything else my heart desires. I work for two hours a week either writing in my dorm or the Libe, and those 2 hours can be spent going to an event for one hour and then writing about it for another hour or just writing straight for two hours. It is a pretty flexible job considering I can do it anywhere!

Graphic Designer

In addition to my job as an Admissions Blogger, I also work as the Graphic Designer for the Music Department at Carleton for the other 6 hours. I design all of the posters for concerts, faculty or guest performances, and events happening through the Music Department. I use Photoshop to create the posters and I’m also in charge of helping out around the office and checking emails regularly. Overall, it has been a very rewarding experience and I have been learning a lot about time management, self advocacy, collaboration, and working in a professional environment.

Kamala is a first year student from the land of Aminé (Portland, OR). She enjoys going to concerts with her friends and singing along to every song on the radio. Kamala is also a Sagittarius with a Capricorn moon, even though she still doesn’t know what that means. She is passionate about social justice, politics and stress knitting. You can always find her with a glass of milk at the LDC (Language and Dining Center) or impulse cleaning her room past 11 pm.
