My College Choosing Process
As a senior in high school, I wanted to wait to do college visits until I received all my acceptance letters. However, by the time college decisions were released, the world went under a pandemic lockdown. Being in a predicament where I had to choose a college without physically visiting, I relied heavily on websites and social media platforms.
College Websites

Colleges’ websites will give you the most factual information regarding their institution. These sites can show you things like what majors, resources, and career opportunities are offered at the school. Since the time that I had made my college decision, many universities have now increased their virtual presence.
Specifically at Carleton, there are virtual communications platform and virtual tours of the campus. As you embark on your journey to pick a school, directly engaging with the campus through websites can help you picture yourself inside those settings.
Social Media

While college websites inform you, social media sites give you the opportunity to see perspectives from individuals of your age. Although most things on social media are to be taken with a grain of salt, social media can help you picture the atmosphere and social climate of the school.
Some of my favorite social sights were Instagram, Reddit, and Niche because they contained many diverse reviews. Although I was not able to physically visit campus, these sites helped me learn more than I had hoped!
