Week 4(44). We’re All Freezing.

Minnesota is in a deep freeze and so is Eve.

Minnesota is in a deep freeze and so is Eve.

Hello world,

Most of MN has cancelled activities for tomorrow, but Carleton will be maintaining a regular schedule. We’ll have free hot chocolate and cider at Sayles, the Weitz, and LDC, but I don’t know if that makes walking from Goodhue across campus much better. I’ve been sick for over a week, my sleep schedule is all over the place, and I wake up freezing every morning. Technically, Goodhue rooms are supposed to maintain a temperature of 70 degrees, but my closed windows let out heat and I get cold easily. I’ve contacted Residential Life and Facilities numerous times… I’m trying to get permission through Res Life to ask Facilities to increase my room temperature by several degrees. We’ll see what happens.

On the bright side, I submitted a fellowship application for doing my COMPS (senior thesis) research over the summer. I’ve applied the past two years with no luck for other projects, but *fingers crossed* that I’ll finally be a fellow this summer. My topic of research is on the reproduction of Chinese American identity through food and dress in the realm of high fashion, and if awarded a fellowship, I will complete my research in New York City (how I miss America’s hub of fashion).

Aside from realizing ASIA (Asian Students in America) Club’s Lunar New Year celebration this Friday — planning a huge campus-wide event with only one other board member has been stressful — the rest of term is literally building up to the results of my fellowship application. Hopefully, there will be some really fun moments mixed in there — DJing at Midwinter Ball, Firebellies events, coffee/study dates with friends.

To my Minnesotans, stay warm in the -50 windchill. To my friends in warmer places: I will, in my imagination, live vicariously through you.

XOXO,

Eve

To the (initial) dismay of her parents, Eve is an aspiring fashion creative seeking to break the starving artist stereotype. When she isn’t drinking coffee at Sayles, the Minnesotan gal can be found wandering the Weitz, browsing memes at the Libe, or reinventing old recipes at Dacie Moses. On campus, she is involved in Firebellies, Karl-Pop, CSA, and Carleton Art Society, among other cool student organizations. Meet the other bloggers!
