Hello and welcome back to my blog!

And happy finals season! (Although I just had another “mid-term” yesterday for my bio class, but 8th week should count in finals season right?)

In one of my previous posts “Making a (Mini) Film in Class“, I shared about how much fun I had being part of an in-class production crew for my CAMS111 Digital Foundations class. I have since finished the editing for that project and I am pretty proud of the the end result.

I am now working on the final project for this class, which is creating a 3–5 minute film on any subject we want. I decided to make a fake commercial for a fake product that I created, to mock some of the blatant scam advertisements I’ve seen on YouTube.

This is a rare on-set picture of me recording my friend Weiland yesterday

I am now halfway done with filming the raw footage, and I want to share about how happy I am to have so many resources available on campus to aid my filming process.

Production Office

As a student currently taking CAMS class, I am permitted to check out equipment from the CAMS production office. For my intro level class, I got to use equipment like the Sony NX5U camera, DR-100 MkII Tascam audio recorder, omnidirectional and shotgun microphones, boom poles, and other equipment to film my final project. It has been exciting to learn how to use the equipment in the class and now to use it to create and produce projects from my imagination.

PEPS (Presentation, Events, and Production Support) Equipment Checkout Center

There is also a similar resource for people not currently taking CAMS classes called the PEPS Equipment Checkout Center. I only came across this resource recently, and boy am I excited and impressed! I wish I had discovered this amazing place earlier! Any student on campus can check out items, from SD cards to headphones to cameras, for up to 14 days! I previously thought that the production office was it, but I was so wrong!

I am very pleased to know that such a resource is available for everyone to use even when we are not CAMS majors or not taking any CAMS classes. I am for sure going to visit this place a lot more frequently after I finish this term (if I have the time between all my other classes gahhhh!)

The Class of 1969 Makerspace

I am also so incredibly happy and lucky that Anderson Hall opened earlier this year. At my Math and Science high school, I spent a lot of my time doing stuff in the makerspace in my high school. I am really glad I can continue utilizing a makerspace, designing and making more stuff for fun while at Carleton. There is so much you can do in this makerspace! From sewing to 3D scanning to laser cutting! And the staff there will teach you how to use all the equipment! Because we don’t have an engineering department at Carleton, the makerspace is an underused resource that more people should utilize! I used one of the many 3D printers to create my fake product that I am advertising in my final project.

Now it’s time to dive right back into preparing for finals and finishing up filming for my final project!

Hope you have a wonderful week my lovely reader! Stay safe and healthy!
