How Does it Work At Carleton?

Carleton College is one of the partners of Swipe Out Hunger. The program occurs during the 7th week, so students sign up to donate their unused meal swipes before each trimester. After the 7th week, all donated meal swipes convert into meal vouchers. These donated meals are later given to students on the campus who deal with food insecurity during the school term or break.

Why and How I became a program director:

I took a keen interest in this program because it resonated with some of my values, like health and wellbeing. When I began my freshman term, the club’s senior directors were nearing graduation, so they were seeking replacements. After reading this information through a campus announcement email, I reached out to them to convey my interest.

At Carleton, many clubs have openings throughout the school year. Furthermore, if you find a club that catches your interest, you can always apply for a position!

The Significance of This Organization:

This program builds a community at Carleton College because it empowers students to support their peers. During my freshman fall year, the student body donated more than 500 meal swipes. Sometimes being at a college can feel like a bubble that keeps you from the real world, but being a program director has taught me how to connect with real-world problems within my community.
