We’re approaching the end of 7th week, and summer break is coming quickly. I thought I’d take some time this week to talk about my summer plans.

I will be back home in the Bay Area for the summer, and will be fairly busy with both work and soccer. I’ll be interning for Qolsys (or Quality of Life Systems), a home security startup in Santa Clara. I’ve been told that I will mainly be working in the accounting department, but hopefully I will have some opportunities to work with the software development team as well. Qolsys is an innovative company that does some pretty exciting stuff, and I can’t wait to get started. I will be interning full time, and it will be my first experience working in an office based environment.

In the evenings, I will be playing soccer with a semi-professional team (Santa Cruz Breakers of the USL League Two) for roughly 4 nights each week. This is certainly something that I am especially looking forward to; our soccer season at Carleton is in the fall, and we don’t get to play quite as much throughout the rest of the academic year. Although practices are about an hour away and are fairly late at night, the commitment is worth it, and continuing to play at a high level is something I’m very excited about.

Aside from work and soccer, I aim to spend as much time with family and friends as possible. Spring term at Carleton finishes much later than most schools, and since I have to return early to Carleton for our soccer preseason, I have a shorter summer break. While my break is shorter, summer is still by far the longest period of time I have to spend with those close to me, and I’m looking to make the most of it. My family will be moving down to Southern California in the fall, so I plan to cherish what could potentially be my last prolonged stay in the Bay Area for a while.

Alvin is a west coast kid at heart (coming from San Jose, California), but is excited to start many adventures here in Minnesota. He plays for the soccer team here at Carleton and loves exercise. If he’s not on the soccer field, in the gym, or out on a bike ride during his free time, he can be found in one of the lounges playing Exploding Kittens, or in the music building playing piano. He is a potential economics major with an interest in computer science and mathematics. Meet the other bloggers!
