Lettu shares how she spent her long weekend
Carleton College runs on a ten-week trimester system. This makes the school’s academic environment fast-paced, so breaks are essential for students to rejuvenate. At Carleton, midterm exams occur during the fifth week of the trimester, so students are given the Monday of their 6th week off. In this blog, I wanted to show you the highlights of my midterm break weekend.
Friday
On Friday, I finished my last midterm exam, which happened to be for my Intro to Computer Science class. After that exam, I went on a walk around campus with one of my friends. The weather that day was very pleasant, so the walk gave me a chance to absorb the sunshine and get some exercise.
For the remainder of the evening, I decided to spend some time with myself. During that time, I rented a movie, got some snacks, and snuggled in bed to watch one of my favorite movies. I can say it felt very nice to wind down after weeks of classes, assignments, and tests.
Saturday
On Saturday, I went to a BBC picnic, which is a community for women of color on campus. I really enjoyed this event because it helped me meet new peers and upperclassmen. This event was very fruitful because it gave us the chance to share and listen to advise, ranging from career paths, academic, social, and personal life.
Later that evening, I grabbed dinner with a friend from the Burton Dining Hall. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit on a terrace that was located between Burton and Sayles. As we were eating dinner, the sun began to set, so the sunset gave the sky a beautiful, rich color.
Sunday
On Sunday, I woke up at 5:30 am (this was my first time!!) to watch the sunrise with one of my friends. The east side of the campus is a vast arboretum, so we hiked a little deep into it. When we got there, we found some classmates who were also there to see the sunrise.
That afternoon, I gave some piano lessons in the campus chapel, then I rushed to the rec center for an appointment. Prior to that week, my friend Art and I had reserved a slot for rock climbing in the rec center. Since the room we reserved didn’t require harnesses, I was a little nervous, but the ground was thoroughly padded. I got quite the workout, and I can’t wait to go back!
This is Lettu Konshie and she is an incoming freshman at Carleton College. Lettu hopes to spend her freshman year getting to know her peers and exploring the town of Northfield! During her free time, she loves to read and watch movies that explore new ideas, concepts, or lifestyles. Meet the other bloggers!
