Snow, Lots of Snow, and Ice Cream

Like Eve, Jelilat is not thrilled about the spring snow, but had a fun-filled week indoors.

Hello lovely readers, let me just get this out of the way now: We have seen a two-day long blizzard here in Northfield, Minnesota (a.k.a. a forsaken tundral cage). Nevertheless, I still have hope that spring is coming, and will be in full effect once the weather concludes these tantrums that suck the moisture from usually-moisturized skin.

On a lighter note, I had a lot of fun this week! I believe it is essential to have fun in a stressful environment such as Carleton. In this spirit, I pushed myself at my AfroFit class on Tuesday. The following day, as an editor this term, I co-hosted a pitch meeting for the student-run satirical magazine, The Salt. I know. How fitting a role, it is. *Toots own horn; rightfully so*

In the spirit of contributing to society by way of critiquing it, I participated in the Blood Drive facilitated by the Red Cross. Unfortunately, I could not give blood after all. So, logically, I took various snacks provided for people who gave blood. I like to think I gave it by proxy. Like through my personal aura and energy, ya know?

Ooo I found time to exercise on Wednesday! Afterward, I ate Indian cuisine with other Muslim Student Association members and Muslim faculty. We mingled and got to know each other for the impending arrival of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting in the Islamic religion.

Following a hectic Wednesday, I got to wind down on Thursday. I attended a talk on decolonizing sex positivity. I look forward to similar events in my Carleton career. As you know (or you should know), Herspectiv was live at 9 p.m!

Friday was a beautiful day. I took a quick trip to town and actually bought what I budgeted for. I know. Wow. A budgeting icon. Money management queen. Continuing in the wake of my blossoming as a money-mogul, I participated in an experiment on campus and earned $10!! Soon after, I attended the African-Caribbean Association’s dance practice for the International Festival performance.

This weekend was filled with snow. Everywhere. As a coping mechanism, I persuaded my resident assistant to bake brownies, provide ice cream, and popcorn for a cold, involuntary but lovely night-in.

That’s all for now, folks!

Byeeee,
Jelilat

As a selectively-proud Houstonian, Jelilat is undecided in her major, and could be more concerned about her life after college. Meh. She’ll get there. She enjoys thriller novels, compulsive online shopping, and skipping the “It” movie advertisements when they come on. Jelilat also enjoys taking #OutfitofTheDay pics, spending time with people with very loud laughs, and learning more about her fellow peers’ experiences, interests, and perspectives.
