Including... bagels, coffee, and a festival!

This weekend, my roommate and I were determined to have fun.

On Friday, we decided to spend some time exploring Northfield and rating its different coffee shops.

First, we headed to Tandem bagels—yes, the breakfast bakery I talk about in every other post! I had a gift card from my birthday, so in addition to breakfast, we ordered a dozen fresh bagels to keep in our room. My roommate and I both got coffees and their specialty pizza bagel: a 10/10 combination of fresh pizza sauce, melted cheese, and spices on a toasted bagel.

Pizza Bagel!

Tandem smells exactly how a bagel and coffee shop should, and once the pandemic is over, I’m excited to study there regularly.

After breakfast, we walked around town and unexpectedly ran into Northfield’s Earth Day festival!

Complete with kids running around, music, and info booths about environmental justice in Northfield, it was super fun. It reminded me of home, where we often have festivals with lots of crafts and activities. My roommate and I got some seeds to plant (even though we’re both notorious for killing plants!), homemade soap, shampoo, and conditional bars, and stared longingly at alpaca wool yarn and handmade knitted socks and cozy hats.

After exhausting ourselves in the market, we headed further into town to shop for groceries at Family Fare. I guess this isn’t technically fun, but it was so nice to just get out and walk around (even if it was in a grocery store!). On our way out, we got more coffee from Starbucks (I know, I know…) and walked the 10 minutes back to Carleton.

After chilling out back in our room (AKA: telling each other we were going to finish homework and then staying on TikTok) we had dinner with friends out on the Bald Spot. The LDC has ice cream and a ton of toppings on Saturday evenings, which made our day even better! We finished the night by watching Endgame (and crying a lot over it) and heading to bed at 11:00, because we’re super cool college students.

We’re excited because in two weeks, we will both be fully vaccinated and will feel even safer spending time with our friends and exploring Northfield!

Erin grew up catching salamanders, recklessly climbing trees, and running around barefoot in the Appalachian Mountains in a small town in North Carolina. This is her first year at Carleton, and she’s looking forward to meeting new people, exploring campus (especially the arb!), and experiencing her first Minnesota winter. She is currently interested in studying psychology and gender, women’s, and sexuality studiesMeet the other bloggers!
