Jelilat just returned from a PossePlus weekend retreat topic focusing on “Race, Hate, and Hope.”

Hello loyal reader,

This past week has been something else for me. I went on the PossePlus weekend retreat. Therefore, I did all of my weekend work prior to leaving campus (!!) for the weekend. To clarify, the Posse Foundation is a program that provides capable students with support (financial and otherwise) throughout their undergraduate experience. The Posse scholars on campus are mainly from Houston and Chicago. The idea of Posse is to provide students with a support system (hence Posse) among themselves. The 2018 Posse retreat topic was: “Race, Hate, and Hope.” Posse scholars and non-Posse scholars (PossePlusers) shared their perspectives and experiences on the topic.

Earlier in the week, I completed my last interview for the Resident Assistant position for the upcoming school year. I would say it went well. The following day I phoned accepted students through the Office of Admissions to answer their burning questions about Carleton to consider in their decisions. During this event, the Office of Admissions provided Chipotle. With a hopeful heart (and full stomach), I headed to the Rec center for my evening AfroFit P.E. class (and tried not to throw up the burrito I had just inhaled).

On Thursday, Her-spectiv, a KRLX radio show I co-host, went live! We will be on Thursdays at 9 p.m. Tune In! For our first show, we discussed what was on our minds. To say the least, this show was cathartic.

After a long week of blitzing through my readings and assignments for class, I finally relaxed in my seat on a Northfield Lines bus heading for Camp St. Croix in Wisconsin (!) for the Posse Retreat.

Ciao!

As a selectively-proud Houstonian, Jelilat is undecided in her major, and could be more concerned about her life after college. Meh. She’ll get there. She enjoys thriller novels, compulsive online shopping, and skipping the “It” movie advertisements when they come on. Jelilat also enjoys taking #OutfitofTheDay pics, spending time with people with very loud laughs, and learning more about her fellow peers’ experiences, interests, and perspectives.
