Hiya everyone!

I hope everyone else is enjoying their 8th week. Or at least not too stressed out with work. Only two more weeks, guys. Hang in there!

Motivational Cat

So Spring Break is coming up pretty soon! I don’t know about any of you guys, but I have pretty exciting plans on how to spend my Spring Break.

20 days ago, I applied to be a participant of the Gettysburg Leadership Program trip, and 10 days ago I received the result: I will be spending three days in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania!

“Gettysburg Leadership Program is a three-day seminar that introduces Carleton students to the concept of leadership and team building in the context of liberal arts and business careers, using a historical framework”. Throughout the span of three days, we will be touring various sites at the Gettysburg National Military Park and Battlefield. And after this seminar ends, we all hope to gain a better understanding of self and our unique leadership essence, and to pass our experience down to other people as well!

I can already tell that the program would be very exciting. And here are some of the reasons you totally should apply for the program:

1. It’s competitive

If you adore competitiveness, congratulations! Gettysburg Leadership Program is a very competitive program. Out of the very many candidates for the program, only 12 people will be selected for the seminar.

You will be able to boast to everyone that you are one in the only twelve people who got into this very cool and badass program! Imagine all the cool opportunities you can get out of this.

2. Therefore, you can get a tons of experience out of writing and fixing your résumé and cover letter

I had never written a résumé or a cover letter in my entire life, so trying to participate in this program really pushed me out of my comfort zone (but then again, I was already out of my comfort zone when I came to U.S.A.)

I slaved away at my desk for hours, trying to fix and mend every single bullet point, and my hard work paid off!

I also gained a lot of new experience while working with the Student Career Assistants, who really went out of their way to help me with reformatting my résumé and cover letter. They were really friendly, helpful, and extremely informative. Shout out to them silent heroes!

3. It’s free!

Yes, the cost of the trip is completely covered by the Career Center! You don’t have to look into your bank account and balance and hiss in disdain anymore. What better way to spend a portion of your break than going on an all-paid trip to some of the most exciting historical places in the U.S.A.? I know I would always be down for this. How about you?

4. Meet new people!

Why hole up in your room throughout the whole break while you can go out and explore the world and meet new people? Unless you are an introvert…

I myself don’t like meeting new people either. But networking, amirite? I find it very useful to network and build relationships as well as connections with people to support myself throughout the school year. It can get really lonely being an international student in the U.S.

In conclusion…

There are many perks to going on programs supported by Carleton College. Going to a school that is filled with opportunities and people who understand your needs really help further your cause at every point in your life, or at least your college life.

You want to thrive at Carleton? Grab every chance offered to you! Be relentless. Be a leech (but don’t suck people’s blood). And you will get whatever you want. Sorry for this weird motivational message — I’m kinda whacked right now lol.

Okay bye, and happy 8th week people!
