Eve talks weather, photography, and literature in this week's update.

Hello world,

This weekend it snowed again! Early this week, it rained hard. The weather has been quite dramatic lately, but it was sunny yesterday, and photography has kept me occupied. I’ve been really sleepy all the time for some reason, and allergies are getting to me.

It’s been an exciting term so far, though. Last weekend, I shot with two models in the cities (scroll down for a behind-the-scenes photo). Inside and outside of my imaging lab class, I’m getting more and more familiar with the darkroom. We recently started shooting large format, which I had never experienced before.

On Friday, I have another shoot with Trek, whom I’ve shot before for L’Officiel Lithuania. We’ll be creating something goofy and spunky.

Beyond that shoot, I hope to incorporate more literature into my work. My Chinese Biographical Histories class, poetry (including the poems of Carleton alum Chavonn Williams Shen), Li-Young Lee’s perspective, and Murakami’s short stories will serve as guiding forces.

I love 2003 Frost Medalist Lawrence Ferlinghetti‘s characterization of poetry. He wrote: “Poetry is not all heroin, horses, and Rimbaud. It is also the whisper of elephants and the powerless prayers of airline passengers fastening their seat belts for the final descent.” I read those lines in high school, and they’ve stuck with me ever since.

Praying for sunny skies and anticipating what the rest of this spring holds.

All the best,

Eve
