Not Quite Spring Term

It might be spring term, but for Jacob the weather is still a bit too cold for his liking!
As we conclude the third week of spring term, I’m having a hard time believing that it’s mid-April. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I’m no stranger to the cold and I’ve had my fair share of April snow. But the weather this spring is some of the most miserable weather I’ve ever experienced. The chilly days may seem better than winter term’s blizzards, but at least those are expected in the winter. Now though, my favorite spring term activities are all impossible to complete.
These include:
- Tossing a Frisbee on the bald spot
- Afternoon walks in the Arb
- Studying outdoors
- Wearing shorts and leaving my jacket in my room
- Seeing the sun, ever
Additionally, the weather has disrupted the normal ultimate frisbee schedule. Carleton was chosen to host the conference tournament this weekend. I was excited to get to play on campus so that friends could come and watch the team compete. Unfortunately, the tournament was postponed a week and will likely be cancelled altogether because of the semi-frozen fields.
As the cold days continue, I have to remind myself that the weather will eventually warm up. Spring and summer will come. Until then, I’ll find ways to enjoy the current environment. And hey, it’s almost 50º today!
However, the weather forecast for the next week is not encouraging.
