The deadline for committing to grad school was April 15, and I’m excited to share that I made my decision! In the fall, I will begin working toward a Ph.D. in the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington!
I’ve written about my interest in climate science and oceanography in previous blog posts, so my enthusiasm for being able to continue studying these topics should be expected. But I am excited for so much more about this decision as well. When I visited UW in March, I was able to picture myself there for the next six years. The community within the oceanography program is social and welcoming, and one that I look forward to joining. Also, I get to move to Seattle! It’s not that I don’t love Northfield, but I’m glad that my home for the next several years will be in a large city and near some of my extended family.
I’m thankful for all the support I have received that helped me get here, from academic support to the alumni network and my advisors and professors at Carleton. I have received a great undergraduate education at Carleton, especially in physics, and I know that I am prepared to take this next step toward studying physical oceanography.
Jacob is a senior physics major interested in climate science and oceanography. Jacob enjoys eating, sleeping, and hanging out with friends — the simple things in life. At Carleton, Jacob works in the physics department and captains the Gods of Plastic, Carleton’s nationally competitive Division III men’s ultimate team. Meet the other bloggers!
