As a Carleton student, I’ve tried out a wide variety of spots on campus for studying. After almost a full year on campus, these are the ones you will mostly see me in.
The Psychology Student lounge (a.k.a. the Psych lounge)
There aren’t enough words to describe how awesome this place is. This spot is located in the basement of Anderson, the STEM complex. Its many features make it a place for students to hang out, study, take a nap, eat, or watch a movie. The cozy couches and chairs always put me in a good mood to do my readings. My friends and I also enjoy using the giant monitor to watch random videos together. Additionally, I regularly use the fridge to save food that I carry from the Language and Dining Center (LDC).
Gould Library First Floor
I particularly like studying in any of the private study rooms on the first and second floors of the Libe. This floor is for people who like studying without even the slightest distraction. I personally love this space, as it provides a peaceful environment for me to focus on writing academic papers and blogs (like this one). Another plus is that I often get help with these papers from the Writing Center, which is on the fourth floor.
Olin First Floor
The rooms on this floor are very spacious and frequently used for classes and comps meetings. I find the rooms ideal for group study sessions. They are also excellent for Google slide presentations or movie nights with friends. What I find amazing about these rooms is that they have excellent sound systems. I usually play slow music in the room during study sessions with my friends.
The spots I want to try out
Minnesota is gradually having sunny weather and some Carls are already making good use of it. For the past few days, most students have been studying on our outdoor quads like the Bald Spot and the Mini Bald Spot. These are the next study spots where I want to spend some quality time with friends.
The spots I chose are all based on personal preferences. From what I have observed, many people spend time studying in Sayles, our student center, and sometimes in their rooms. You’ll find what works best for you!
