Besides writing admissions blogs, I also make TikToks for the Carleton College TikTok account(@carletoncollege, drop a follow) and work in the Alumni Relations Office as a Student Ambassador. So far, I’m loving all my jobs, and here’s a little inside look at what I do for all of them!

With great power comes great responsibility…

This one is pretty obvious. I make TikToks that show what life is like at Carleton, from my attempts at aesthetic day-in-the-life vlogs to sharing my weekend plans. Recently, I posted a dorm tour with my roommate, and it’s a pretty good idea of what your first-year dorm will likely look like, as I live in the majority first-year building! Honestly, this has felt like a really good use of all the time I already spend in an endless scroll on TikTok, and I get to hop on trends without feeling like I’m trying too hard on my personal account.

Feel free to comment on them and let me know if there are any specifics you would like to learn more about!

STAMP

STAMP stands for the STudent AMbassador Program, which is my role in the Alumni Relations office! We help plan important events such as First Year Fall Day (FYFD), where first-years can customize tote bags, get apple cider, eat donuts, and bond with their classmates. We just wrapped up FYFD this year, and I thought it was a very wholesome way to spend time with your friends! This year, we also did tabling outside our homecoming games to give out pompoms, stickers, snacks, and hot drinks while promoting the Carleton Athletic Initiative. It was an awesome excuse for me to put down my homework and go out with my friends to watch the games over the weekend. We also organize Maize and Blue Daize, which is perhaps our biggest event of the year.

Overall, working campus jobs has been a very rewarding experience for me, not only because I get paid money toward my tuition but also because I get to see how students contribute to Carleton behind the scenes. From my friends who work in dining to my several coworkers, I never would have thought of the critical role students play. This is also my first time working significant hours while being a full-time student, and it’s honestly helped me a lot with learning better time management and time maximization. Compared to high school, I’m now much better at planning ahead, balancing my life, and learning to prioritize. If you have the option too, I definitely recommend looking into working a campus job!
