My Favourite Restaurants in Northfield

It all began during the summer of freshman year, when my friend, Paul, took me to a Mexican restaurant to try out the burritos they had. After that day, I started hanging out more often with friends in Downtown Northfield, frequently trying out food from restaurants. Among all the food places, here are my top picks:
Coco’s Place
I like to refer to this Mexican restaurant as an upper-tier version of Taco Bell. I usually had my feel just by eating a single burrito and some fruit juice. It’s a little more on the expensive side because it is the best place if you are looking for Mexican food, no questions asked.
Taco Bell
If you live in the US, you might be familiar with the place. It’s my favorite place because the tacos and burritos are as cheap as a dollar and are also really good. They also have amazing meal packs at affordable deals. One such deal is the Classic Combo pack, my favorite $5 meal. According to the description on Taco Bell’s website, it includes a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, regular Crunchy Taco, Chips & Nacho Cheese Sauce, and a large fountain drink. Taco Bell also uses DoorDash which allows me to order meals from the comfort of my dorm room. Let me be clear that traditional restaurants are much better for you than fast food restaurants. Nevertheless, fast food can be more appealing to college students, especially because it is cheaper.
New Buffet
This restaurant reminds me of food from back home. I’m always tempted to eat way too much here because it is a buffet (of course) and the spicy chicken with vegetables is “extra hot”, according to the Scoville Scale which measures the spiciness of peppers. My go-to meal at this Chinese restaurant is vegetables, rice, and spicy chicken. It is pretty affordable if you occasionally dine in at the restaurant. Tip: the lunch fee is lower than the breakfast and dinner fees. Thank me later!
El Triunfo
This other Mexican restaurant is known as “El Tri” around campus. It’s a very popular restaurant to get catered food from, especially for meetings held by the African and Caribbean (ACA) organization. I got the inspiration to write this blog from a meal I had last week here. The meal was made of three quesadillas, rice, beef, green pepper sauce, and vegetables. For me, one thing that makes the food good is that it is served warm and the green pepper compliments every other component of the dish. The food from this restaurant is very popular among Carleton students, so it might be the first place you want to try out if you haven’t.
My honorable mentions will go to the coffee house, Goodbye Blue Mondays, and the ice cream shop, The Blast. Next time you take a walk through Downtown Northfield or just want to try something different from the food at Carleton, look out for these places!
