My Favorite Spots on Campus

Because of Covid, I realize a lot of you haven’t gotten a chance to tour Carleton. Visiting colleges was a big part of the decision-making process for me, and I’m so sorry you’re missing out on that! In this blog I’ll give a mini (virtual) tour of campus and talk about my favorite spots.

Carleton was actually one of the few colleges I wasn’t able to visit.

My first day on campus was the first day of new student week—so I know what it feels like to just jump in and hope for the best! Fortunately, Carleton is a really good place to do that. I don’t think I could love the Carleton campus more than I already do.

My Favorite Spots

1. Weitz Center for Creativity

Weitz is the main arts and performance building! As an artist, of course this had to head my list. It is about a ten-minute walk from the center of campus; from my hall, Nourse, it is six blocks. It’s such a pretty building, inside and out.

2. Boliou Hall

Another obvious choice for an artist! Boliou is the second arts building on campus, and I love to go there to study, walk around and look at students’ art, or people watch out its big front windows. It’s home to art history classes, woodworking shops, ceramics studios, printmaking, and lots of pretty art!

3. The second and third floor of the LDC

The second floor is made up of Classics professors’ offices… plus tons of very niche books, artwork, geeky-classics-professor decor! I love exploring the bookshelves and in general, it’s just a nice place to relax. Good vibes!

The third floor is one of my favorite places to study or join Zoom classes (outside of my own room). It’s big windows overlook the Mini Bald Spot.

4. This isn’t technically a place, but…

I have to include the walk across Lake Lyman to Goodhue Hall and the Rec Center. It’s so pretty! This time of year, it’s covered with snow and ice, and somehow still home to lots of ducks. Goodhue and the Rec are the furthest removed buildings from main campus, but the scenery makes it so worth it. In total, it takes me about ten five to ten minutes to get over here from the main campus.
