Andriana talks about her fifth week at Carleton, Family Weekend, and SNOW!
Hi everyone!
So this has been a big week at Carleton for many reasons. First, it is fifth week here at Carleton, which means midterms. Midterm week is different for everyone — many students have midterm exams or papers, while some people, like me, were lucky enough to be spared from such horrors. Although it has been a busy week for everyone on campus, I am excited because midterms mean that I am halfway through my first term of college!
The first term has definitely been an adjustment, but that is normal and every freshman feels it in some capacity during the transition, regardless of the school. Despite this, I have really enjoyed my first term at Carleton so far, and I feel grateful to have such wonderful professors and classmates. The rich learning environment was one of the main reasons why I chose Carleton, and even though I have yet to finish my first term here, it is clear how Carleton has earned its academic reputation.
As much as I have loved my first term, being so far from home has made me really miss my family and friends, which is why I’m very excited that Family Weekend is here at Carleton! My parents are coming up from Virginia to visit me and experience life at Carleton by sitting in on one of my classes and having lunch with me at the dining hall. Although Family Weekend is a good way for families to visit and learn more about their student’s campus life, it can be spent in many different ways. Some students are flying home for the weekend, while others will be enjoying the three-day weekend with friends on campus.
In addition, while we will have warm weather in time for Family Weekend, last weekend we had our first snowfall of the season! Even though I’m from Virginia, which is much warmer than Minnesota, I have experienced enough snow to know that I absolutely love it, and I always look forward to the first snowfall. This didn’t disappoint, and although none of the snow stuck, it was a very pretty sight to wake up to. Of course, my roommate and I, snow nerds that we are, went for a morning arb walk in the snow to celebrate!
Here is an arb pic for the week:
It will be a busy weekend, but I’m so excited to share about it next week!
Andriana
Andriana is a native of Richmond, VA, and is looking forward to starting her freshman year at Carleton. She is especially excited to experience the Minnesotan Tundra first-hand and learn what the phrase “polar vortex” really means. When Andriana isn’t busy staying warm, you can find her binge-reading, playing music, or watching a favorite movie or show for the umpteenth time. She is hoping to double major in International Relations and English, while also reminding herself to keep an open mind as she begins her college career. Meet the other bloggers!
