Mid-term Break!

Hannah reviews the events of her spring mid-term break.

Mid-term break has come and gone, which means we are past the halfway point of the term. Time really flies on the trimester/10 week schedule! Mid-term break is technically only one day long, but it makes the weekend feel so much longer. That being said, I think this has been the best mid-term break so far. In comparison to my previous mid-term breaks this break has been a blast. (During winter term I had COVID, and for fall term I simply can’t remember it, so it can’t have been that good.)

What have I been up to?

This weekend has been filled with track, hanging out, boba, target runs, and frisbee. And, of course, a little bit of homework (we are at college after all).

This Saturday we had a track meet at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. One of my best friends from high school goes to Macalester, and she came to watch the meet! My dad also came to watch me run, and it was really fun to see them. Unfortunately, the meet did not go super well for me. However, I still had a good time cheering on my teammates and running in the rain.

After the track meet we had a formal social event at one of the houses that track upperclassmen live in. The men’s and women’s team got dressed up and we had a fun night dancing in our fancy attire.

Boba and Target Run

In Northfield a classic grocery-shopping-errand-running place is Target! Whether you need dorm supplies, clothes, or snacks, Target pretty much does it all. A shuttle stops at multiple places in Northfield that are a bit far to walk, and Target is one of the stops.

I went with my friends Audrey and Meredith to pick a couple of things up. We ended up wandering around for almost an hour. (Target will do that to you, time passes so strangely in that store.) Then we stopped at Tin Tea—Northfield’s Bubble Tea store—to get some boba on the way back to campus.

Cheers at Tin Tea!

After we got boba we decided that cheese curds sounded like a really good idea, so we stopped at Culvers. Once we returned we hung out in Audrey’s room sipping tea and eating goldfish and cheese curds.

Movies, music, and frisbee

On Sunday night we watched “Flushed Away” (a classic movie involving a rat getting flushed down a toilet complete with singing slugs). I haven’t seen this movie in a long time so it was really fun. After we finished our movie we did some karaoke in Meredith’s room. Then, we met up with some of our friends to talk about the frisbee tournament they had this weekend.

Though we like to play hard at Carleton we also work like to work hard. Monday afternoon I headed to the Libe with my friends Audrey and Adam to get some reading done before track practice. After dinner, I worked on my visual journal for my Geology class. Afterward, we reconvened in the Cassat lounge to hangout before going to bed to complete our break.

I had a great break! I wish it was a little longer… but I guess that’s what summer is for! Though I am looking forward to summer, I can’t help but want this term to last awhile longer. I finally feel like I’ve settled in at Carleton, and I love my classes. Spring term has been the best term yet!

Hannah is a freshman interested in Political Science and learning as much as she can about whatever she can. Born and raised in Minnesota, she considers herself somewhat of an expert on MN winters. She can’t wait for ice skating on the Bald Spot and Nordic skiing in the Arb, along with exploring all of the other amazing opportunities and activities on campus! When Hannah isn’t in class, she can be found reading, running for the Carleton Track team, watching TikToks, and tutoring with the Northfield Read and Counts Program. Meet the other bloggers!
