Looking Forward to Fall

The recent cooler weather in Northfield has McKenna looking forward to fall. Here's what she's most excited about!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons (second only to winter). As summer draws to a close and my friends return to campus, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about what things I’m excited for this coming fall.

Move-In

I’m not quite sure if this counts as a tradition, but I really do enjoy moving in. This year, I’m living in a suite with four of my best friends. I think we’re going to have a great time! Most students move in two days before classes start, but first year students get to move in before the start of New Student Week.

Sweater Weather

Because I’ve been in Northfield all summer, I’m particularly excited for the return of the beautiful Minnesota fall. I like cooler weather and love watching the color of the leaves change. Most of my cozy sweaters are in storage on campus, so I can’t wait to break them out!

Spooks!

Of course, no discussion of fall can exclude Halloween! Although I often have a lot of homework to do during late October and early November, I always make time to dress up. I’m not the only Carleton student who enjoys Halloween either—Greta wrote all about her “Halloweekend” before the pandemic! I’m hoping that some of these traditions will return to campus life soon so we can get spooky safely.

Apples. Lots and lots of apples.

Last summer, I talked about how I adapted family traditions to my new life in college. My excitement about apples comes from those family apple adventures. I love going to the local orchard with my friends and I’m looking forward to drinking a truly insane amount of apple cider this year!

Seeing my friends

Ultimately, the most exciting part of fall term is always getting to see my friends again. This is a big draw for me this year, because some students did not live on campus last year. Although we had frequent video calls, I still miss seeing them in person. I’m so excited for everyone to come back!

McKenna is a Russian and Psychology double major who is thrilled to be spending the summer in Minnesota! On campus, she’s often designing lights for a student performance, speaking Russian in Parish house, or grabbing a meal with friends. She’s also a proud member of the Carleton Equestrian Team. Off campus, she participates in the CLS Program and is a tutor with Paper AirplanesMeet the other Bloggers!
