Leaving

I have had more work this term than any prior one, and that has kept my mind rather occupied. Because of this, it only really hit me Tuesday how soon my sophomore year would be over. For two of my classes, that was the final day, and, now, on thursday morning, I am just two papers and a final exam away from the end. And going home for this break feels a little bit different than in the past. I am very excited to go home, I miss my family, I miss my mom’s cooking, I miss getting to sleep for more than six hours, but I am only now fully appreciating the amount of time I will be away from Carleton. Since first coming here, the most time I have been away is fourteen weeks, about a term and a half, which is how long summer break is. But since I am going abroad in the fall, I will be gone from Carleton for six months. I won’t be seeing/playing Frisbee with my friends, won’t be biking across campus at nine in the morning to work out, won’t be sitting at a desk in the library until it closes trying to work on multiple papers at once, and I don’t know what to make of that. Again, I cannot wait to go home, or to go to Denmark, and I am kind of looking forward to a break from Carleton, if for no other reason than that a change of pace is always nice, but it just feels strange to know that I will be gone for so long.

That’s really all I have to say today. It has been on my mind for the past few days, and fully came together when I thought about what to write today. Thanks to everyone who has been reading this (because I’m now fairly certain that it is not just my mom), I hope I helped some of you get a better idea of what Carleton is like and look forward to writing more come next winter. And thanks to Kaelie and Jamie for all there help with the blog this term, and to my fellow bloggers for giving me inspiration when I had trouble coming up with a topic (basically every other week).

David is a sophomore from New York City who had an unexpectedly hard time finding a picture of himself to add to this biography. He is leaning towards Philosophy as a major, but we will see if that is still the case come Spring. When not being inept at using a computer, he enjoys writing and playing Ultimate Frisbee.
