Lakes, Trivia, and Cookouts!

Northfield trivia venues should really start sponsoring me for this publicity.

Hello again!

I’m back with more Northfield updates! (featuring a new trivia venue!)

I’ve started repeating events, but only because I enjoy them so much. This week I went back to Lake Byllesby after work on Wednesday. It always feels nice to get out of Northfield for an evening — the drive to the lake is so beautiful, and only 20 minutes! When we went over the weekend it was pretty crowded, but on weekdays it has been basically empty, so we’ve lucked out with a private beach. As previously mentioned, lakes are my favorite body of water, so I had a blast just swimming around! We also set up spike ball and played until the sunset, which was so pink and pretty! Eventually it got pretty buggy outside so we decided to head back to Northfield. I think this is my favorite Northfield summer activity so far!

On Thursday I finally made it to Loon Liquors, which completes my quest to try out every trivia night in Northfield! What an exciting accomplishment! Loon lets you bring your own food, so our trivia team brought a feast — we needed the brain food. We had two full pizzas, a big salad, lots of chips and guac, and Chris made a baked brie bread bowl. Wow! The trivia teams at Loon are much larger, but even with seven people we did not do very well. We aced the picture round, and the round on city nicknames, but the general knowledge questions and round of homophones really messed us up. But hey, Mark, the trivia officiator said we are all winners because we are all here.

Some of the questions:

  1. What is the homophone that refers to something that can go in the mail, and also something that cannot go anywhere?
  2. What is the homophone that can be a reason to do something, and the sound of a murder?
  3. How many earth sized planets could fit between the earth and the moon?

The next day was Friday! Yay! Carleton SAO (student activities office) hosted a big cookout on the mini bald spot– thanks Austin and Molly!! All of the admissions fellows went over and played corn hole, spike ball, and ate lots of food. My personal favorite dish was the grilled corn. It was fun to see so many Carls here over the summer, and everyone was in a great mood because of the weather. Also because of the free food. What a great way to end the week!

Stay tuned for more Northfield updates! Also below is another sunset picture, and a few more trivia questions from The Cow’s trivia night on Sunday — I will post answers to all of these in my last summer blog 🙂

  1. What did project blue book study?
  2. What is the most visited national park in the U.S?
  3. Who said “90% of this game is half mental”?
