KRLX in Retrospect

Ronnie talks about their KRLX journey.
At KRLX, “It’s better on the bottom.” Located in the basement of Sayles, I’ve been coming here since winter term of my freshman year. I write this as I am in the studio, doing my last show of the fall as a senior. KRLX has been one of my favorite student activities that I do purely for fun. I don’t do it for my resumé or to get better at anything, I do it for the love of the game. For the love of radio.

The first show I did was called “The Girly Tea Party” with my friend Chance. Ever since then, we have done a show each term, all ending with “Tea Party.” Our first show was from 4:00 AM – 5:30 AM. Although it was brutal, we never missed a single show. Part of the fun is having something that you are absolutely obligated to do.
In celebration, I will explain all the past Tea Parties:
Winter ’23 – Girly Tea Party: The first edition!
Spring ’23 – Priestly Tea Party: This term Chance and I took Intro to Christianity with Prof. Lori Pearson. Chance is now a Religion and Classics double-major! I took many religion classes after this, but am unfortunately not a major.
Fall ’23 – Clumsy Tea Party: The Sunday before classes started, Chance broke his hand while biking. Rest assured, he is okay now! Still a little clumsy though.
Winter ’24 – Lackadaisical Tea Party: Sometimes you have to set the intention for a chill and relaxing term through your radio station’s name.
Spring ’24 – Theological Tea Party: We both declared Religion majors this term (although I did change my major, I still love the department). This is one of my favorite tea parties because we had some professors on to talk about religion! (Shout out religion profs Sonja Anderson and Lori Pearson!)
Fall ’24 – Eschatological Tea Party: This was a featured show, a type of show that centers around a specific theme and takes a little extra preparation. We talked about eschatology, AKA the study of the end of the world.
Winter ’25 – Casual Tea Party: We kept it casual this term, as winter term often warrants.
Spring ’25 – Serious Tea Party: Junior Spring is the time to get serious. We were both taking tough classes and truly had to lock in.
Fall ’25 – Elderly Tea Party: This was our most recent show. We are seniors, elders, unc status, washed, old.

I have done some other shows with other friends and will probably have three radio shows next term with different people. However, Chance and I have done one together every term. Our last tea party will be next term because I am graduating early, but we had a good run. Also, listen in at 88.1FM or online at https://content.krlx.org/
Ronnie (they/she/he) is a senior Biology major from Oak Park, IL. Outside of blogging, she is also an Admissions tour guide and a Student Ambassador for Alumni Relations. You can usually find them in Cowling Gymnasium with the Ballroom Dance Team, practicing for the next competition or chatting with teammates. They also have very strong opinions about food on campus (especially LDC eggs and Burton fried tofu). She is also the commodore of Carleton’s sailing club and a DJ for KRLX, the student run radio station.
