Andriana talks about her week and the arrival of October at Carleton!

Hey everyone!

October is here, and it is beginning to feel like fall at Carleton. Believe it or not, the leaves had already started to change around the time new students arrived on campus, but fall is now in full swing. Today was very rainy and pretty cold (at least by my standards), but it was so pretty to see the bright colors of the leaves against the dark October sky.

Besides trying to stay dry this past week, I have had a really fun time bonding with other freshmen from 3rd Cassat. On Friday, we went to Fireside Orchard and were able to pick apples, drink cider, and get pie and donuts. Afterward, the awesome RAs on my floor hosted a floor dinner and candy apple activity, which was a great way to end the evening.

Saturday night, some of the freshmen on my floor had a movie night and we watched Netflix on a projector in one of the dorms. It was really fun to stay up with the other people in Cassat and bond over teen movies! We have another movie night planned for this Friday, and I’m already super excited!

Of course, this blog post would not be complete without talking about this week’s adventures in the Arb, whom my roommate, Maya, and I have affectionately named B(arb). Unfortunately, Maya and I have not been able to go into the Arb as much this week due to the weather, but today we were able to go for a walk when there was a break in the rain. It was nice to be outside and enjoy the fresh air after spending so much time indoors this week.

Another fun thing that I finally got to do this week was explore the food options in Northfield. Throughout the week, I have gone to dinner at Chapati (an Indian restaurant in town), had bagels and coffee at Tandem Bagels and Goodbye Blue Monday Coffeehouse, and gotten killer chocolate peanut butter ice cream at Hogan Brothers. As much as I’m loving Carleton food, it was nice to try some of the other options available in Northfield, in case the dining halls should ever — hypothetically speaking, of course — get a bit boring.

Anyway, this week has really made me ready for fall, and I’m so excited to spend my favorite season here at Carleton. Happy October!

Andriana is a native of Richmond, VA, and is looking forward to starting her freshman year at Carleton. She is especially excited to experience the Minnesotan Tundra first-hand and learn what the phrase “polar vortex” really means. When Andriana isn’t busy staying warm, you can find her binge-reading, playing music, or watching a favorite movie or show for the umpteenth time. She is hoping to double major in International Relations and English, while also reminding herself to keep an open mind as she begins her college career. Meet the other bloggers!
