Halloween doesn’t stop once you get to college. There are many ways that people celebrate all around campus.

Dress up!

My biology major friends dressed as birds. Very festive!

In my opinion, this is the key to having fun on Halloween. You don’t have to wear your costume to class, but it’s so fun seeing when people are dressed up! My personal favorite costume was Jeff Probst from Survivor.

Eat in the Dining Hall

Having spooky dinner in LDC after ballroom practice!

Not because it’s scary, but because they have themed food!! The bright green mush on those plates was actually very delicious mashed potatoes (they called them “Monster Mash”). There was also a cookie and cupcake decorating station with candy and frosting!

Pizza with olives, gummy worms, and hot dogs
“Body parts” pizza at LDC… complete with green olives, mozzarella balls, hot dogs, pepperoni and gummy worms!

Okay so I was a little too scared to try the Halloween themed pizza, but Sayles and the other cafés also have themed food and drinks!

Trick-or-Treat

Bowls of candy
Candy bowls prepped and ready in the Biology office to distribute to the Bio professors! (Yes, the profs were all in costume)

Every department across the campus has Halloween in their offices, so both college students and local children can experience the joy of free candy!

Hangout with Friends

My friends and I dressed up on Halloween night! With costumes from Snoopy to the tooth fairy to a Jedi!

It’s fun to hangout by playing some card games or watching some spooky movies. I love any excuse to be with friends, so Halloween is a really exciting time for me.

Of course it’s optional to celebrate Halloween, but it is much more fun to at least get dressed up.

Ronnie (they/she/he) is a senior Biology major from Oak Park, IL. Outside of blogging, she is also an Admissions tour guide and a Student Ambassador for Alumni Relations. You can usually find them in Cowling Gymnasium with the Ballroom Dance Team, practicing for the next competition or chatting with teammates. They also have very strong opinions about food on campus (especially LDC eggs and Burton fried tofu). She is also the commodore of  Carleton’s sailing club and a DJ for KRLX, the student run radio station.
