Many Carls are passionate about enacting change on campus and beyond. There are many ways to get involved in activism, large and small.

Join a Political Student Organization

Group of students and community members watch a political debate
CarlDems organized a political debate this term for the CD2 Congressional Debate!

There are over 200 student orgs, so there’s something for everyone! CarlsVote, CarlDems, Interfaith Social Action (IFSA), and others. You can even check out WHOA House (Wellstone House for Organizing and Activism) for a living community that centers around advocacy!

Attend a Protest

If you feel comfortable, protests are a great option to get out there and fight for a cause! People in Northfield are politically engaged and often form grassroots initiatives based on local issues. Everyone is welcome!

Volunteer

Volunteers collect native prairie seeds around the arboretum for future plantings!

Carleton’s Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) is the campus’ connection to the surrounding community. There are many opportunities to volunteer for various causes from sustainability to education.

Stay Informed

A Public Lecture by Dr. Cajetan Iheka
Professor Cajetan Iheka from Yale University gives a lecture at Carleton on Wild Ecopedagogy and Ecological Ethics.

The Political Science Department hosts many different speakers and discussion events about current events. You can also read The Carletonian, a student run newspaper, to hear about campus-specific news.

Making a difference in your community can be challenging, but rewarding. But it can be worth it to get out there and participate in political action! Even a small difference is a difference.

Ronnie (they/she/he) is a senior Biology major from Oak Park, IL. Outside of blogging, she is also an Admissions tour guide and a Student Ambassador for Alumni Relations. You can usually find them in Cowling Gymnasium with the Ballroom Dance Team, practicing for the next competition or chatting with teammates. They also have very strong opinions about food on campus (especially LDC eggs and Burton fried tofu). She is also the commodore of Carleton’s sailing club and a DJ for KRLX, the student run radio station.
