Everything I Did in One Trimester

This winter term
As the winter term comes to a close, I’m reminded about how much happens in ten weeks. Before I came to Carleton, I was worried that 10 weeks would not be enough to do anything but schoolwork. I quickly learned that I was wrong!
In this term alone, I walked to class in both -22 and 60 degree weather, made new friends, and discovered a passion for historical theory. So even though the trimester system seems really short, I’m here to show you that so many things happen outside of the classroom in one term at Carleton.

Performances (mine and others)
Just last night, I performed my final scene for my acting class with one of my close friends. Not only was this our final, but we also got to invite close friends and family to our performance!
It was an awesome way for me to bring what I was doing in the classroom to the people I care most about. I was also able to see my friend’s performances throughout the term and support them in the same way they supported me.

Dressing up (for dances and for fun)
I will take any excuse to dress up (which is one of the reasons I love the midwinter ball). But I don’t always need somewhere to go. Sometimes I can get ready just to take pictures or have impromptu dance parties with friends! Any reason to dress up I take!

Spending time with old friends
This term, I worked on reconnecting with some people I was close with freshman year. Even though we were abroad on different terms, we didn’t lose touch and are always down to watch bad reality TV or go on a target run.

Making new friends
Even though I am a junior and I have friends from freshman year, I still found time to make new friends this term! I met Leo (the blogger) through a theater experience. I also met new friends through all three of my classes this term.
I am living proof that even at a small school, there are always new people to meet.

Celebrated the most important holidays (and crafting!)
Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day are two of my favorite holidays. Even though the trimester system means we didn’t get either day off of classes or work, I still found ways to celebrate when I wasn’t in class! Plus, it was more fun to go to class so everyone could celebrate with me!

Honorable Mention — Friday Flowers
This is definitely not an exhaustive list of everything I accomplished in one term. Although I am probably going to be hunkered down in a study room for a few days working on my final papers, I wouldn’t want it any other way. This means that I get to start a whole new set of classes in about two weeks, which means new opportunities, friends, and experiences are just around the corner!

Kate (she/her) is a junior History and Theater double major from the Bay Area, California. She loves Carleton’s artsy community, and is involved in the Vocal Studies Program and occasionally the Experimental Theater Board when her fight choreography skills are in high demand. Kate’s favorite places on campus are the practice rooms, either in Myers or the Weitz, where she can sing or play the ukulele. She loves the campus during all the seasons but thinks nothing could compare to the beautiful colors of Northfield in the fall. When not in class, you can find Kate either petting the nearest cat or forcing her friends to watch bad movies in a study room.
