Hey friends,

Although Northfield is a great town with so much to offer, Dundas, the town over, is equally vibrant!

The Movie Theater

The first thing I like to do in Dundas is go to the movies! While the Student Union Movie Organization (SUMO) shows new releases in the Weitz theater such as Dune, West Side Story, and Spider-Man: No Way Home every week during the term for free, going to the movies is a fun and cheap way to get off campus.

On Tuesday, they even have a special deal, making all the tickets $5!

Although I have only been there a couple of times, my friends and I always have a good time when we go.

The last movie I watched there was Top Gun: Maverick and I really enjoyed it!

Martha’s

Another fun place to visit in Dundas is Martha’s Eats and Treats!

Martha’s is a really cute bakery right outside of Northfield. With nice natural light and cute chairs, it is a really great place to grab a pastry for a quick breakfast on the weekends.

Although I had heard about Martha’s months ago, last week was actually the first time I had been there. They had cinnamon pull-apart bread, quiches, scones, danishes, and everything in between. I will note while super delicious, Martha’s doesn’t take credit cards so make sure you bring some cash.

Silkey Gardens

The last place I think you should visit is Silkey Gardens. While Silkey Gardens is technically located in Northfield, I think it is a cool place to check out if you want to get into nature. Silkey Gardens is a fruit farm not too far from Carleton. During the fall, it functions as an orchard and you can go there to pick apples. In the winter, they are known for their berry patches. While I’ve only tried their strawberries (which are so yummy), they also have blueberries and raspberries you can pick.

While it opens pretty early in the day, if you and your friends are willing to set an alarm it might be a fun way to spend a weekday morning.

Ultimately, there are a ton of things to do at Carleton and many things that are within walking distance; however, if you have a bit of free time, it is definitely worth exploring the surrounding area.
