It is my senior year at Carleton! One might say that now is not the time to start new activities (especially as I work on my comps project), but then again you know what they say: if not now, when? Moral of the story, I have joined Womxn’s Club Soccer team on campus!
Why?
I played soccer for 14 years before I came to Carleton, ran on the track team my first year, and then start playing for Syzygy (Carleton’s D1 Ultimate team that plays in the women’s division… but that’s another story). I really loved playing soccer and I’ve missed it quite a bit. Though playing frisbee takes up a lot of time and I get to do something at a high level of competition, I miss the beautiful game of soccer. Sometimes throwing a flying piece of plastic through the sky is just not the same as kicking a round object across the grass. Either way, it has been so fun to get back into my favorite sport.

Practice! and Socials!
If I’m being honest my practice attendance has not been fantastic as I have been super busy with comps and practice for Syzygy. That being said when I can go it is so fun! We often do a mix of drills, scrimmaging, and perhaps a bit of fitness in there (which I can’t complain about–it’s helpful for most other aspects of life). The team also lifts throughout the week working on those #gainz.
I have two other friends from Syz that go to club soccer too, it is a low stress environment that is focused on having a good time and getting better at soccer. My friend Rebecca has never played before and she has really improved so it definitely is for anyone and everyone who is looking to have a good time. Cloccer (club soccer if you will) has been such a great addition to my life and has been something I’ve been trying to get around to for the past four years at Carleton. Club soccer is also a great community, outside of practice they host various hangouts, socials, and people often get dinner in the dining halls after practice. We often schedule stuff with men’s club soccer as well, like mixed games or combined socials.

Games
Besides practice we do have games on and off Carleton’s campus! They are often on Saturday or Sundays so that we can have high attendance. We often have about 5 or so subs so there are plenty of chances to get on the field. Just recently we had a game against St. Olaf on their turf. We won for the first time in a while with a riveting score of 3-2. There is equal playing time and you get to try all sorts of different positions on the field if you want to–from goalie to forward. My friend Meredith (who is also getting back in to playing soccer) and I both had a great time!

Hannah is a senior majoring in Geology and minoring in Classics. As a Minnesotan she considers herself somewhat of an expert on MN winters. At Carleton, she fills her schedule with writing for the Admissions blog, doing geology research, and TAing classes. When Hannah isn’t in on the academic grind, she can be found tossing a frisbee with Syzygy, playing club soccer, crocheting, exploring the Arb, thrifting, and hanging out with her besties.
