Busy…

Alvin talks about his busy week and some of his upcoming plans.

For this week’s blog, I’ve decided to switch it up a bit by talking a little more about my week, as opposed to information about colleges as well as events and resources at Carleton. I’ve had a very busy week, but it’s definitely been my most exciting week at Carleton to date.

The workload is really starting to pick up as we approach the end of the term, and I’ve been heavily occupied with essays, projects, and problem sets that seem to get longer and harder each week. As a student athlete, it can sometimes be difficult to effectively balance schoolwork and sport, and I have felt challenged at times in keeping up with both.

Although school has been tough recently, soccer has been going extremely well. With only one loss in over the past two months, our victory over St. John’s on Saturday clinched our second place finish in the league, which granted us a first round bye heading into playoffs. On Tuesday, we beat Macalester in the semi-finals, leading us to our first championship game in over 5 years. We broke into the top 25 in the national rankings, and are now just one game away from reaching the elusive national championships.

Time management has been more key than ever for me over the last couple weeks, and will continue to grow in importance throughout the rest of our soccer season and the academic term. Due to the increase in time commitment to both school and soccer, I’ve had little time for practically anything else; fortunately, we have a six week break at Carleton and I will have a lot of time to unwind and relax with friends and family once I get past the next three weeks or so.

As soon as the term ends, I will have more time to prepare for classes next term, as well as finalizing my plans for studying abroad. I signed up for classes earlier today, and will be taking linear algebra, an economics class focusing on sports, and a history class focusing on gender roles in the United States. The history class fulfills the last of my core requirements, and this next trimester will be my last term before I declare my major and start focusing on taking more major related courses.

I hope school is going well for you all and that everyone is staying healthy!

Until next week,

Alvin

Alvin is a west coast kid at heart (coming from San Jose, California), but is excited to be in Minnesota. He plays for the soccer team here at Carleton and loves exercise. If he’s not on the soccer field, in the gym, or out on a bike ride during his free time, he can be found in one of the lounges playing Exploding Kittens, or in the music building playing piano. He is a potential economics major with an interest in computer science and mathematicsMeet the other bloggers!
