Being in lil ol’ Northfield, Minnesota over the summer originally did not sound like my ideal scenario. However, this summer has been a fantastic experience for me. There are so many more people in the area than I expected, and so much to do and explore!

Since the beginning of Summer I have begun working on a personal website (sorry it is not quite ready for viewing!), taken multiple trips to explore the twin cities, and made lots of new friends in the area.

The Twin Cities!

When I was choosing which colleges to apply to, access to a large metropolitan area was important to me. Carleton being 35 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul was a big plus. I intended to be in the Twin Cities every three-ish weekends but when I got to campus, I found that there was so much to do on campus and so many people meet and engage with that this plan was put on the back-burner. However, I have gone to the cities for many classes including but not limited to Art of the Ancient Americas, The Origins of Manga, and The Anthropology of Food. These trips have been to galleries, restaurants, and various parks! Lots of fun.

But being here over the summer has given me time to go to the cities more regularly (every other weekend!). I have gotten to walk around for hours on end with friends just trying to see new things and find interesting places to eat. I even did my first escape room not too long ago. To set the scene, we were archaeologists trapped in a room and we had to discover four relics in order to escape. Luckily I, the first-timer, was in a group of seasoned veterans and with their aid we blew through the challenges. We ended up escaping with 18 minutes left on the clock without using any hints! The fourth fastest time anyone had ever escaped from the room. I also got to see the Guthrie Theater and the infamous yellow room! Pics to follow!!
