In addition to professional staff OAR also has a team of students who help implement different programs offered by the office. There are two different roles which students in our office have: Peer Leaders & Peer Mentors.
Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors work with OAR’s Carleton Academic Peer Support (CAPS) and First Year Transition programs doing ongoing 1 on 1 work with students. You can learn more about both on our Programs for Student page.
Applications to be a CAPS mentor for 2023-24 are now open. You can read a job description and learn how to apply on the Student Employee Job Board Posting.
OAR Peer Leaders
Peer Leaders also serve as mentors for the CAPS and First Year Transition Program. In addition they plan and implement broader campus initiatives including disability education and awareness events, social programming, and generally promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for people with disabilities. Some examples of previous and ongoing Peer Leader led initiatives include:
- The Accessibility Digest Newsletter
- “Disability Visibility” Book Discussion for students, faculty, & staff
- Student study breaks
You can learn more about the Peer Leader Program and how to apply for the OAR Peer Leader position on the Peer Leader Website.
