Configuring Routes

To define routes to remote hosts and networks and to establish the routing method, use the Routing tab.

Cisco TCP/IP Suite does not require entries in the routing table, but it must have a routing method.

Choosing a Routing Method

Cisco TCP/IP Suite requires that you choose either a default route, router discovery, or the RIP (Routing Information Protocol) as the routing method. To choose a routing method:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the Routing tab.
  2. In the Routing Method group, click the routing method you want to use:
  3. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Adding a New Route

To add a route to the routing table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the Routing tab.
  2. Click the New button. The New Route dialog box appears.
  3. In the Destination Address field, enter the IP address of the remote host or network.
  4. In the Gateway Address field, enter the IP address of the gateway. The gateway must be on the same network as your workstation.
  5. In the Address Qualifier group, indicate whether the destination is a host or a network.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Modifying a Route

To modify a route in the routing table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the Routing tab.
  2. In the routing table, select the route you want to modify.
  3. Click the Modify button. The Modify Route dialog box appears.
  4. Modify the route information.
  5. Click OK.
  6. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Deleting a Route

To delete a route from the routing table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the Routing tab.
  2. In the routing table, select the route you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  5. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.
