Convocation Series Kicks Off with Posse Foundation President Deborah Bial
Deborah Bial, president and founder of The Posse Foundation, will present Carleton's opening convocation on Monday, September 15 at 3 p.m. Entitled “Make It Happen: The Importance of Transformative Leadership,” Bial’s address will take place in the Skinner Memorial Chapel. Prior to her presentation, Carleton will award Bial with an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. This special event is free and open to the public.

Carleton’s Art Gallery Partners with Minneapolis’ Northern Clay Center to Present International Pottery Exhibit
In partnership with Minneapolis’ Northern Clay Center, Carleton College will present a collaborative new exhibit entitled World Ceramics: Transforming Women’s Traditions, opening September 19, with a special reception and lecture on Saturday, September 20 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The exhibit, opening reception, and related lectures are free and open to the public.

Carleton Makes List of 25 Cutting-Edge Green Colleges
Carleton has been named one of the 25 “greenest” colleges in the United States, according to the recent edition Kaplan College Guide 2009. The Kaplan Guide features 25 green private and public colleges from across the nation. The section provides students with a look inside the classroom, around campus, and at student life, while shining a spotlight on what's good for the globe at each college.

Carleton College Names New Members to Board of Trustees, Reappoints Craine
Carleton College has announced the appointment of six new members to its Board of Trustees: Don Frost Jr. ’83, Sara Hays ’86, Elise Holschuh ’77, James Johnson ’64, Marc Noël, and Elizabeth Pennie ’04. Additionally, the Board announced William Craine ’70 has been reappointed as a Trustee.

Carleton Service Office Named to President’s Honor Roll
Carleton's Acting in the Community Together (ACT) service program has been named to the second annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The President’s Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can receive for its commitment to service and civic engagement, according to ACT Director Laura Riehle-Merrill. The ACT Center currently supports 40 volunteer programs and sponsors numerous special events and speakers throughout the year. During the 2007-08 school year, 594 Carleton students volunteered through the ACT Center.
