Missouri Field Trip
Spring 1998
Photos by Tim Vick

Our trip to the St. Francois Mts. in Missouri this spring was held May 2-7. It was an excellent trip with a spirited group of 36 students and 4 faculty including Mary Savina, Dave Bice, Bereket Haileab, Ed Buchwald plus Tim Vick. In this picture taken early in the trip, Alex determines the orientation of a joint or fault in a rock face.

The sun came out during the discussion period; this is Anna soaking up rays.

We tried a new stop which was suggested by Katie Werner, the Pickle Springs Natural Area. It was wonderful! This little waterfall is near the actual spring itself.

Noah did a little climbing into the rocks at Pickle Springs to get a better look.

Another great day was the canoe trip on the Jack's Fork River led by Robb Jacobson '79 and Maria Panfil '93. Robb and Maria are USGS geologists.

The giant railroad cut near Washington State Park is always a good stop for mapping and discussion. (Photo by Ed Buchwald)

As Kate's recorder music drifted over the campsite in the dawn mist...

The folks who slept by the lake at the camp were awakened by a roving photographer and responded by making a pig pile.

Dinner time was a regular ol' party - with chips and salsa!

A group paused at the overlook in Johnson Shut-Ins State Park for a quick picture.
