I have included selections from “Self-Definition in an Unequal Society: The Role of Gender in Identity Development.”  I wrote this essay for my English Senior Seminar, Toni Morrison: Nobel Laureate.  Focusing on Sula and Song of Solomon, my essay explores how the unequal social statuses of female and male characters affect their identity development.
