Weekly Bulletin October 4 - October 10, 1995

Friday, October 6 3:30 p.m. Olin 108
STUDENT TALKS: Merlin Meyer-Mitchell, "Energy Relaxation in a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas"

Matt Sniffen, "Electron Cyclotron Resonance in Plasmas"

These talks begin a series in which physics majors will speak on their physics-related work and research experiences. This week seniors Merlin and Matt will speak about their last summer's research at Penn State and Madison, respectively. We particularly recommend the series to juniors who may want to apply for similar kinds of positions next summer.

COMMENTS:

1. Powerful literature search technique on the Web Science Librarian, Charles Priore, has pointed out that "Current Contents" can now be accessed on the Web at URL gopher://sprawl.micro.umn.edu. With it you can scan tables of contents and abstracts of virtually any journal. For example, ApJ is there through July.

2. Student workers Quite a few time sheets were only partially filled out or left blank last pay period. These have been left in the binder in Olin. You can still get paid for your hours, but you must complete the time sheets before they can be sent to Leighton. Please see Doug in Olin 219 (x4033) if you have questions about this.

3. National Science Foundation Grants See Cindy for applications.
