COMMENTS:

1. Many thanks to Dan Celotta for spearheading and organizing the first annual physics camping trip!

2. A Career Exploration Information Meeting is being offered by the Career Center on Wednesday, October 11 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Career Center (Sayles Hill 50). Now's your chance to find out about career options by shadowing an alum in the "real world". Start early and maybe you can try several of these eye-opening opportunities before you leave Carleton.

3. Internship Information: The NATIONAL RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY is sponsoring summer student research assistantships for undergraduate students in astronomy, physics, electrical engineering and computer science. Students will work closely with a staff scientist on various radio astronomy programs which may involve observing, data analysis, equipment development or theoretical study. Application deadline is 19 January 1996. See Cindy for application materials.

4. Seniors: We are looking for people to tutor E&M students. Benefits: The opportunity to solidify your E&M before GREs, and Carleton's high pay rate. Contact Joel ASAP if interested.

5. Interested in engineering? In the next few weeks we will have visits by representatives of both of the engineering schools with which we have formal connections. Franklin Johnson (Washington University) will be on campus Thursday, October 26. James Erwin (Columbia University) will be here Thursday, November 9. Both are primarily interested in talking with students considering the 3-2 Combined Plan (3 years at Carleton, 2 at engineering school). But both have expressed a secondary interest in students intending to stay at Carleton for 4 years, then go on for further study in engineering. These will be excellent opportunities for you to find out more about these particular programs and about engineering in general. Contact Bruce Thomas (Olin 3432, x4389, BTHOMAS) for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.

* THE NEW PHONE NUMBER FOR SECOND OLIN IS X5806 *
