COMMENTS:

1. Radar Exploration of Venus Talk Early efforts with earthbased radar telescopes produced much solid knowledge of the Cytherean surface and laid the basis for later satellite-based radar mappings by Pioneer, Venera and Magellan orbiters. The history of pre-satellite radar observation of Venus is used as a philosophical case study for understanding the nature and role of modeling data. Radar astronomy uses notions of local "best-fit" laws that are incompatible with many philosophical doctrines/scientific laws. Thus the radar case study challenges and shows limitations of a number of standard philosophy-of-science views. Sponsored by the Departments of Geology, Philosophy, and Physics & Astronomy and the College Visiting Scholars Fund.

2. Watch "Home Improvement" Dan Celotta's sister, Jen, wrote next week's episode of the show! It will air on Tuesday the 21st. Does this call for a party? Call Dan and ask.

3. All Majors Most of you seniors haven't turned in those questionnaires about your summer and future plans. Return completed forms to Susan, Olin 309, a.s.a.p. Susan is going to start tracking you down. Watch out!

4. Keys Start thinking about turning in your Olin and Goodsell keys. ALL KEYS MUST BE RETURNED BEFORE JUNE 7. Keys will not be accepted for return after that date. Because both Olin and Goodsell will be re-keyed this summer, the keys you have now will no longer be useful.
