COMMENTS:

1. Aaron Bostwick's comps talk on Monday is cancelled

2. Grad School Bound Juniors: GRE procedures are changing in a major way! The Career Center recommends taking the general GRE at St. Olaf April 13 (last chance ever for non-computer version in Northfield). Registration deadline is March 8 but it may fill before then.

3. Comets, Meteors and Asteroids! The Classical Mechanics students are trying to avert a cosmic catastrophe by calculating how to deflect a comet or asteroid that is on a collision course with Earth. In honor of their efforts, Cindy will give a general talk on "Comets, Meteors and Asteroids" complete with lots of slides and video clips. It will be held Monday, March 4 from 7:30-8:30pm in Olin 141. Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend.

4. Cool Images!: Nathanael Motz, Christina Ellis and Agatha Beins have worked this past term on a Special Project in CCD Imaging. They have lots of really cool images! So, in order to share them with you, they are holding an open house in Goodsell 104 on Tuesday, March 5 from 7:30-9:00pm. Stop by and feast your eyes on some cosmic wonders.

5. Another Employment Opportunity for Seniors Epic Systems Corporation of Madison, WI will be on campus interviewing for full time software development and technical services positions Tuesday, March 5th from 9:00 to 1:30 p.m. A reception will be held Monday, March 4th in Sayles-Hill 252 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Epic is a privately owned company of approximately 130 staff that develops software for healthcare institutions nationwide. 6. Reminder of Employment Opportunity for Seniors Sander Glick (`93) works at Project Performance Corporation, a small environmental consulting firm in Washington, DC. He says it's a fast growing company of approximately 50 people who do policy consulting for the Department of Energy's Environmental Management program. Essentially, the program is responsible for the environmental cleanup of nuclear weapons production sites. The company will be recruiting at Carleton on Tuesday, March 5. If interested in working in this area, call Sander at 202-484-0820 or 301-601-1830 (voice mail) with questions or call the Career Center now to set up an interview.

7. Are you interested in taking care of the earth? We have received a poster describing a brand new Master's Degree program at Columbia in "Earth Engineering". It's a combination of science, engineering, economics, and related areas that might be of particular interest to some of you. And there's the added advantage that we have an "in" with the School of Engineering at Columbia (because of our 3-2 program connections). If you're interested, see the poster on second floor, or try the web at http://www.columbia/cu/earth

8. Fairly Bright Comet Coming! Comet Hyakutake will put in an appearance over break and the first week of classes. Please inform Joel if you are interested in helping with open houses during either of those times, and he'll ask you to operate a Meade for the public. For more information on the comet and other celestial happenings go to the Web at http://www.skypub.com

9. Astronomers Let Joel know by email if you'd like email notifications of (1) Aurorae; and/or (2) astronomical discoveries reported by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams.

10. Physics & Astronomy Annual Alumni Newsletter is available from Susan Maakestad in Olin 309. Read what those who graduated before you are doing with their education. Or, just browse for entertaining humor such as a formula for figuring out how many linear meters of shelf space are required for each member of one's family
