FYI

Welcome To The Department: Kathleen and I are very pleased to announce that Meera Grace Pattanayak arrived in the world on January 3rd, 2003 at 12:10 pm. She was born at 6 lbs 11 oz and 21 inches. Mother and baby are healthy and resting (well, baby is getting plenty of rest ...)

Oak Ridge Science Semester Program: Spend next fall participating in research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Oak Ridge Science Semester program (for juniors and seniors) involves students in a wide range of on-going basic and applied research projects at the lab. You pay tuition to participate, but in return you receive a generous stipend ($6400). What a deal! This is a great chance to spend some time off campus, to engage in concentrated research, and to learn more about your talents and interests. Application deadline is March 1. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, January 22 at 3:10 p.m. in Olin 02. Or contact Bruce Thomas (email: bthomas) for more details.

Comps News: Comps presentations scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays will begin at 3:10 p.m. in Olin 02. Presentations set for Fridays will begin at 3:20 p.m. in Olin 101. The first presentation (Solar Energy) will be Monday, January 27.

Copenhagen Kevin proposes that Carleton community members that are interested in attending the play, Copenhagen do so on Friday, January 31st at 8:00pm. He may get the Metro Arts Access Fund to pay for transportation to the event at the Park Square Theater in St. Paul. Is this a good day? Is anyone interested? If so, email me and tell me so. kpettit@carleton.edu

The event will be open to anyone from the college. He needs to know how many tickets to reserve. If we have more than 10 students interested in this event, the tickets would start to cost money. Normal prices are $15 per student. The cost would be split evenly amongst all the students attending.

If you're interested, email me at kpettit@carleton.edu.
