COMMENTS:

1.No Physics Table Monday.

2.Curriculum Discussion As you may have heard, the Education and Curriculum Committee has charged each department to develop two plans, one for reducing course loads for both faculty and students but staying with the current calendar, and a second that would reduce loads but also fit in a semester calendar. We have developed some proposals that accomplish the task by dropping some courses, offering some in alternate years. They are still a bit vague; at this point we are expected to identify "general shapes" but not to plan every last detail. Now we need your reactions. What have we forgotten? How would the proposed changes affect students' course patterns, levels of sleep deprivation, general contentment with Carleton and with our program? The Department Curriculum Committee (students: Sean Hollands, Matt Sniffen, Christina Ellis, Karen Griffith, Zoe Leinhardt, Sean McNee; faculty: Paolo Dini, Bruce Thomas) will meet Monday (dead day) at 1 pm in Olin 133 to discuss the proposed programs. All interested students are welcome and encouraged to come and share your reactions. If you can't make the meeting, talk with any of us either before or after to share your ideas. None of you will be directly affected by any of this -- nothing changes that rapidly around here. So think of this as your responsibility to future students and majors.
