- PHYSICS 123 TALK: "Engineering: Moving Protons, Not Trains" Elaine McCluskey (`77), Facilities Engineering Group, Fermi National Laboratory. All are welcome. Refreshments available. An article on this topic is on reserve in the Science Library. Elaine went from Carleton to Washington University where she earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering under the 3-2 Program in 1978. For six years she worked as a structural engineer for consulting firms in Minneapolis and Chicago. Subsequently, she worked as a consultant for private industry and government agencies, including Fermilab. Recently she became lead structural engineer for the Facilities Engineering group at Fermilab, working to build and maintain facilities for high-energy physics research. Her talk will focus on her experiences at Fermilab.

- ENGINEERING CAREERS: Elaine McCluskey (see above) will be available to discuss engineering, careers, how to get there from here, etc. If you know you're interested in engineering or if you think you might be, come. If you have a conflict, contact Bruce Thomas about arranging another chance to talk with Elaine.
COMMENTS:
1. Careers in Science Writing If you missed last week's talk, be sure to catch it today. Dr. Guyer is a knowledgeable and personable speaker. She'll be leaving Carleton soon so don't miss this final talk!
2. HELP! We really do need one or two more graders for the rest of the term for P 238, Thermal Physics. If you loved it the first time, we'll pay you to do it again. If you got lost the first time, we'll pay you to do it again. And if, perchance, you are between those extremes, we'll pay you....If you already have an assignment but think that you won't fill all of the hours, this would be great way to do it. Contact Bruce or Joel.
3. Physics and Astro Picnic Mark your calendars: the picnic will be May 3rd at 5:30 on the Hill of Three Oaks. Don't forget to sign up in Olin 218 or 214. Questions?: call Brian Geyer or Dan Narvaes.
