Contains aid reporting classifications: Carleton Dollars, Outside Aid, Work Study, Loans. These classifications are used to group award dollars internally at Carleton, and they follow generally the taxonomy supplied by IPEDS for Title IV loans to students. Title IV aid to students includes grant aid, work study aid, and loan aid. We further break down grants into 'Carleton Dollars' and 'Outside Aid.' And we have an 'Other' category, on which see further below.

This table maps aid categories and types to the above categories (e.g., institutional, GRTC => 'Carleton Dollars').

This mapping allows us to report on aid dollars using an alternate hierarchy. It is used to construct the MD_Award view.

Carleton Dollars is probably the most important reporting category, because it tells us which aid is being supplied by Carleton (as opposed to federal, state, or other outside entities). Carleton Dollars include Carleton grants, awards, etc. funded out of our operating budget or out of endowed income (restricted or not). It also includes Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant dollars, which come from Federal dollars awarded by an institution to students who demonstrate financial need. Note that the 'Other' reporting class used in this table covers Parent PLUS loans, which don't go with normal student loans. According to Student Financial Services, there are few outside entities that care about such loans, although we typically put them in the year-end financial aid report.
