Favorite Alice in Wonderland character: the Caterpillar
I've been interested in English literature basically since I learned to read. Reading novels has always been a favorite past time of mine and I never tire of losing myself in a good book. English, therefore, seemed like the ideal major; what other department assigns novels for homework?
My interest in web design has developped more recently. During my time at Carleton, the Fellowship in Christ, a Christian student organization, needed a new Webmaster to update the organization's website and I volunteered. Another student taught me the basics of Dreamweaver, (Adobe's web-design software) and I've been in charge of the website ever since. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that this might lead some day to a comps project, but look where we are now! I had to learn a lot more about HTML and other facets of web design to actually create my own website from scratch, but the more I learn the more I enjoy it. The whole experience has been extremely rewarding, if at times daunting, and I hope that I will be able to put my new web design skills to use in the future.
As for Alice in Wonderland, it actually is not my favorite book. That's not to say I don't like it. It just isn't connected with my childhood or any specific part of my life. In fact, I didn't even read it until I came to college, and I still haven't seen the 1951 Disney version all the way through. But I have immensely enjoyed studying it these last few months. I still feel like there's more to learn and discover. I can guarantee, though, that whenever a reference to Alice is made in a movie or television show, I will notice, probably for years to come.
