There have been many advances for women in the movie industry
but not all of them have been exactly positive. True, it may get them higher
ratings and bigger paychecks but how is this helping the feminist movement?
Many big box office successes over the past few years have shown women in what our society would call deeming roles. These roles include prostitutes and strippers.
The actresses in films like Striptease and Showgirls are potrayed as tools of domineering men who take advantsge of the women's feminity and sexuality to achieve some sort of sexual gratification This probably the case for many of the viewers too who went to watch the women (especially Demi Moore)
Is
this how women want to be portrayed or is this how men want them portrayed?
